Hello,

I am trying to find my Irish roots!  I am reaching out to the Westmeath county because I found a  large number of Nooney's buried in this county.  I'm hoping there may be some Nooney's left here that may be able to assist me.  My 2x Great Grandfather, Thomas Nooney was born in Ireland approximately 1812 (based on U.S. census records).  He arrived in the U.S. in 1846.  He married Alice Flynn ( McElhone) 12 Apr 1850 in Necedah, Wisconsin.  In the U.S. 1850 census Alice's 4 year old son, William Flynn, is living with them.  Unfortunately, I don't have a birth date and I can not locate the date or place of Thomas Nooney's death.  The death certificate would give me this information as well as his parents names.  At this point I would be content to locate any Nooney's in Ireland.  I will be in Ireland from August 24th until Septemer 6th.  Please reach out to me if you are descended from a Nooney family or know anything about the Nooney family.  Thank you and I am very excited to be visiting Ireland!

************UPDATE!!!*****************

I just came across a baptismal record for a Thomas Nooney baptized 31 Jan 1812 in Collinstown Parish, Meath Diocese, Westmeath County.  Parents are listed as Thomas and Eleanor.  Can anyone tell me what church this may have taken place?  It will be a Catholic church.  Also, what cemetery would be used by Catholics in this area?  I would like to visit the place where my ancestors lived and pay my respects to those that rest in Ireland!  Thank you for any help you can provide!

Sincerely,

Judy Ritt

  • Hello,

Would anyone have information on Mary Nooney (Noonan; Nunan). My grandmother was Mary/Maria 2nd wife of  Michael Gaynor. Michael was a caretaker at an estate; possibly Baronston. Michael was born in 1814 but I am not certain about Mary. Michael died while working at the estate in 1877. We were told that Mary was evicted. She later moved to NYC and is buried in Calvary Cemetery in NYC.   I know that Michael had approximately 22 children (2 wifes) but don't know how many with Maria...I do know that there was a Patrick, Thomas born 1865, Annie, James, Matthew, William . I don't know if they all were Maria's children but do know that Patrick , Annie, Thomas were definitely her children.   Any information will be appreciated.  Margaret
