Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out!

Civil registration of births did not begin until 1864. Prior to 1864, you have to rely on baptismal records. I looked for Katherine Keenehan on the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find her record anywhere in Co. Westmeath including Ballymore parish. Do you know her parents names? Possibly we can find the record. In the interim, here is a link https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0909 for to the Ballymore parish register from 1824-1881. Possibly you could scan the register to see if you can find a record.

  • Hello Tomas,
    Welcome to ireland Reaching Out.
Civil records were introduced in Ireland in 1864.
We rely on The Tithe records and Griffiths Valuation and then Church records.
The Keenahan name sems to be in King's County (now known as County Offaly) next to Westmeath.
But, there is a Edward KEENAN in Ballymore in 1854.

Were the family Catholic? If they were then this is the site to view................It's free and easy to use.

    Ballymore records are from 1824.

Do you know what Kathleen's fathers name was?

  • Hi,
    Did Katherine go to Argentina?
If she did was she married or single?
    You have to work backwards.
I did look in the site I mentioned and didn't see a record for her.

  • Tomás:

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland for all of Ireland and did not find Catherine's baptismal record. I looked for other children of John Keenehan and Bridget McLoughlin with no success. I did find an 1831 marriage record in Co. Longford (see transcription below) which may not be for your ancestors but I thought I would share. Again no baptismal records for children of this couple.

  • Thanks for your help. Probably my ancestor (when they arrived in the country they changed their last name). I will continue looking for Catherine, thinking that  Ballymore, Co. Westmeath County is only 37 km from where they got married.

I will also continue to search in the Co. Longford.

    Thanks, Roger
