Robert McKane and Frances McEvoy were married in the Tullylish RC Church in 1862. Wittness for this couple were William Hamilton and Catherine McComish. From 1864-1870 Robert must have been working as a Blacksmith somewhere around the area and in 1864 he took over the lease for no 19A Townland at Ballykelly from Thomas McMahan who was leasing from Christopher McCaw.
In 1870 the family moved to no 29c renting from John R McCaw right through until 1901. I have researched this family and cannot break down the wall to find the parents of Robert McKaine/McKain/ McCane/McKane and Frances Louisa McEvoy/McAvoy/McIvoy. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Looking at the death records for the Banbridge area (which includes Ballykelly) for the years 1864 to 1900 there’s only 1 McKane death registered. That’s your Robert in 1889. So that suggests his parents had both died before 1864, when death registration began. According to his death certificate, Robert was born around 1838. Tullylish RC baptism records start in 1833. Have you searched them for a possible baptism for Robert? Likewise for Frances?

  • The subscription site Roots Ireland only has Tullyish/Seapatrick baptismal records starting in 1843 so no record for Robert or Frances was available. Here is a link to the parish register and as Elwyn indicated baptismal records start in 1833.  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0440  You may want to scan the register and see if you can find the records for your ancestors.

  • Thankyou for your help. I did look at the Tullylish Baptisms  1833-1844 and only found a Francis of John McAvoy and Catherine McMahon 19/1/1842 Sponsors James Halan and Margaret Carberry 2=6. There were no Baptisms for a Robert McCaine McKaine McKain McCane. I may have to look at other Parishes for this couple. Again Thank you.
