I know that I am related to Michael J. McKeon,  eldest son of Michael McKeon and Honor/Nora Mannion through dna. Michael's father is listed as Patt McKeon of Derrea/Derryanima. Since it is the McKeon's I am trying to trace at this time, I am looking for information about Patrick McKeon, father of Michael, and aslo the children of Michael and Honor Mannion that remained in Ireland. Thank you. Christy

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked the subscription site Roots Ireland for Micahel McKeon with father Patrick. Is this the record for your ancestor? I did not see a marriage record for Patrick and Anne Roach/Roche.

  • This is the Michael McKeon (Baptised 20 January 1867 Keelogues)that I am related to.

His father was Patrick McKeon, his mother was Ann Roach or Roche.

They lived in Curraun, sometimes it is referred to as Lower Curran. Keelogues Parish.

Michael McKeon married Honor (Nora) Mannion, daughter of James Mannion and Mary (Maiden name unknown) in 1891.

They moved to Aughaluskey, where the Mannion's were from and lived there until their deaths.

They are listed in the 1901 and 1911 censuses in Aghaluskey, and are buried with two of their sons, in Straide Abbey Graveyard.

My 2xgreat Grandmother Ann Nancy McKeon B 1820 Keelogues Parish and her sister Bridget B. 1812 also Keelogues parish married McAlpine Brothers(John and Parick) from Sheanes, Skehogue, just north of Castlebar. Bridget and Patrick eimgrated to Canada in 1843 and John and Ann in approx 1846. Patrick and two of their sons died at sea, Bridget and her remaining three sons settled in Erinsville, Ontario, Canada. Her sons later emigrated to Minnesota in the US. Bridget died in Erinsvillle in about 1901. Ann and John further emigrated to Minnesota, and raised their family there. He died in 1896 and she in 1898. My american cousins and I are attempting to find the link between Michael's father Patrick and Ann and Bridget McKeon. We know there are McKeons in the Straide area but are not sure where the connection is. Would anyone there in Ireland have information about the connection between McKeons?

  • Also, I do not believe that my McKeon's came from Lackan, but rather they came from Straide, Ballyvary, Curraun, in that area

  • Hi Christy!

I am the great grandson of Patrick McKeon/McKeown, who was Michael's younger brother (Patrick was age 18 in the 1911 census.)

Patrick married Bridget Ruddy of Clare Island and they moved to Chicago. Patrick was a streetcar operator and died in a streetcar accident (I think in the 1930's) but I knew Bridget, his wife/my great grandmother growing up- she died in 1996.

Maybe not the info you're looking for, but just thought I would say hi!
