Good evening,
I'm writing to you in the hope that you can help me find out more about my Great-great grandfather Michael McDonagh & family.
Michael was a tailor before joining the army in the 24th December 1838. The 77th Regiment was part of the Light Division that fought in the Crimea. He left the Crimea in 1854. In 1856 he was sent to Malta. He was invalided back to England & died on the 6th July 1856 at the military barracks Chichester. His birth place is recorded as Kilcummen. His death record states he was 35 years old. I worked his birth year 1821 back from that record. No next of kin record was recorded but he made remittances during the period to Mary McDonagh & Ann McDonagh. He married Ann Sanford & had two children John born 1851 & Ellen 1853 but to date I've not found a marriage record or birth/baptism records for the children. I'm assuming they would all have been military ceremonies. On Census records John & Ellen's place of birth was recorded as Scotland.
I recently had my DNA tested & was delighted to find 47% was from Ireland. It listed North Connaught, South Sligo & North Roscommon, West Roscommon & East Mayo, South Connemara & Galway. The percentage is all from my Father's side on the chart, the great grandson of Micheal, and has prompted me to pick up on my search again.
Any help/advice on how I can proceed with my search for Michael 's parents & possible siblings will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Elizabeth

Elizabeth,
There are three parishes recorded in Griffith's Land Valuations: Kilcummin, Killarney, Co. Kerry - Kilcummin - Killala, Co. Mayo and Kilcummin, Oughterard, Co. Galway. The spelling varies in records, likewise with McDonagh.

Baptismal Sponsors: John Thomas and Bridget Mulloy - Address: Ard;
Michael McDonough - Baptism Kilcummin - Oughterard April 2nd 1819 (?). Father: James McDonough and Mother: Winifred King. Baptismal Sponsors: Thaddeus Toole and Mary McDonough. Address: Derraura (Possible - Derradda).
