Hi,

I have found record on  NLI of my 4 x great grand parents being married in Doneraile in 1835. Irish lass Honora Morgan married Charles Ford who was with the English Army stationed in Doneraile.  Honora's father was James Morgan.  When Honora died in Australia 1901 she was 85 which would make her date of birth around 1816.  Any direction or advice on how I can find out more regarding Honora and her father James would be greatly appreciated.  I could not decipher her mother's name on the NLI record.

Doneraile baptismal and marrriage records start in early 1815 and are included on the subscription site Roots Ireland. I do not see a baptismal record for Honora which leads me to believe that she was born right before April 1815 when baptismal records started.  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0044  Can you provide the exact date of the marriage and I will see if I can decipher the mother's name.

  • Hi Roger,

Sorry, I should have added : both records on NLI.ie

Marriage was 19.2.1835 - witnesses : Michael ______ and Eliza ______.  Charles Ford was with the 51st Foot Regiment.

Birth for Honora dated 16.3.1816.  Her father is listed as James.  The mothers name has been crossed out and another written - that is the one I cannot decipher.  I am unsure why the first name was crossed through.

If records started in April 1815 does this mean I wont find out anything regarding James and his wife ?

I could not find anything regarding the 51st Foot which might have helped regarding the "Morgans"

    Regards.

I was a way for a few days and just getting back to your message

Michael Walsh and Elizabeth O'Leary for the marriage record.

Can I verify the baptismal record for Honora---March 16 1816?    I looked on the Doneraile register and there were no records on that date. Let me know.

There are no records prior to 1815.

  • Thanks Roger, I certainly wasn't close to "Walsh".

I was given [by a relative] a birth date for Honora as 16.3.1816 at Dunerayl and a possible baptism date as 25.1.1828 in Ballyclough.  The baptism in 1828 shows James as her father and ??? for mother.  I am not sure if this is my Honora.  Sorry, I didnt include both dates previously. The only definite record I have been able to find is her marriage in 1835.

I have no idea where to look for information regarding Honora, any siblings or parents.

Thank you for your time with this.

The 1828 baptismal record does not work with an 1835 marriage.

  • I did wonder about being born in 1816 and then baptised in 1828 and married in 1835.  Thought baptism would be just after birth not at age 9.  I will keep searching.  Honora was apparently a nurse at some stage.

    Thanks for your time.
