Hi there, thank you for providing this service! I am looking for someone who was documented to be in an "insane asylum" by June 1886, in Cork. Records are missing, apparently for that year at Our Lady's Hospital. Of course, I have no idea if she was actually at that institution. I think it was her second husband (she was widowed) that dumped her there, to get rid of her. I have many court records from findmypast about his behaviour towards her  :(

I have been in contact with the Cork Archives and they said that it would be like hunting for a needle in a haystack.  Any suggestions?  I only know she was in there by June 1886, but not when she went in, nor when she came out, if she ever did. :(

Thank you for any suggestions.

  • Dear Snickers:

Thank you for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board.  Your best bet might be to contact the Cork Genealogical Society.  They are a very well established group who has done a lot of great work recording and preserving Cork heritage over the years.  The website address is:  http://www.corkgenealogicalsociety.com/.

Please get back to me if you have any further questions.

    Kind regards,

    Jane
