Noonan/Nunan and Shea

I have looked at your above query with interest.  I found the following for you.

Wedding Certificate:   William Noonan from Castlemagner Co Cork married Mary Shea on 18 Feburary 1844. Witnesses were Daniel Shea and Edmond Cushin.

 Birth Certificate:  Mary Noonan was born to William Noonan Newmarket Co Cork and Mary Shea on 16 September 1854.  Sponsors were John Connors and Mary Connors.

Hello Phyl, thank you so much for this information. I have the correct birth date for Mary Noonan/ Nunan. Her brother William was born 1852 also in Newmarket . That could well be him in the 1901 Census. Although this states that he was 44 years old they did not always give their correct ages. My information says that Mary came from Newmarket. Where is that in relation to Castlemagna ? Are they both in the same Parish? It could be my William and Mary.

Hi Rose,

Lovely to hear from you.  I have attached a map of both townlands and yes they are quite close - only takes approx 20 minutes to get from one to the other.
Transport back then would only have been by foot, bicycle, pony and trap so its quite possible they are yours.  
Also remember people would not know for sure their correct birth date and would only give approximate one - take a look at the 1901 Census and alot of [most] people could not read/write.

Back again -  found it!  

Thank you for that Phyl. I will take your advice on board. I have been lucky enough to have visited Newmarket on several occasions and hope to do so again. Can't help but love your country but would much rather be here in Queensland while you shiver in your zero degrees. Actuall today here is 42C - very warm but tolerable. I often wonder how  my ancestors, like Mary Noonan, who  came from all over Ireland survived the heat the 1800's - no airconditioning back then !!.
