I am still looking for parents or siblings for Oliver, b abt 1798 Drumalee, d 1863 Belturbet, County Cavan.

The birth date is from his miltary record, I cannot find him in either a church or civil record.

Did he arrive by spontaneous generation?

I am now considering engaging a researcher, but maybe there are no earlier records to be found.

Am I looking in the right place? I believe that any state records would be in Belfast, ie PRONI. I think I have been on every

website I can find!

I have started looking in Cumbria and Northumberland, using the family names that I know, Oliver, James, Richard, Charles, John and Cameron.

I need some advice on what to do next - there are no Storey YDNA matches, and the Noble family matches are as confused as I am.......................Suzanne

  • Hi Suzanne,
The only record I found was in Familysearch.org
But, the image is only available in FindMyPast so you would need to join if not already a member, this is the link of the record I saw.......

I saw Richard in a tree with a son called Oliver b1836 went to te USA.
As Oliver died in 1863, civil records for BDM were introduced in 1864. (Deaths were not logged before then, having said that, you may just be lucky to find any in Church records)
    You may this.......GV 1854

What you really need to do is, from the first person that is mentioned, that was born in Ireland, work back from there.
We may find other info then.

  • Hi Margot,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, Oliver is the the first person born in Ireland! I have descendants from his wife's siblings, her mother's Christian name, but no father.

I have the Griffiths Valuation, and yes, I am a member of FindmyPast. I also have the Marriage Index for 1827, so I seem to have exhausted what is available.

The military record is excellent, if only it recorded his parents!.

    Everything helps,

    regards,

    Suzanne
