My 3x great grandparents Owen Cavanagh b abt 1821 and Catherine Kenny b abt 1826, married in Co Durham, England in 1850. Owen was already widower with a son Michael b abt 1845  in Ireland. I don’t know whether they met in Ireland or England. Owen’s father was James and Catherine’s was Darby.  I have some evidence  supported by DNA matches that Catherine’s family were from Easky in Sligo (possibly Carrenrod?) but I’m far from certain. I also think that Owen’s father James was from Sligo and may have had a brother, also named Owen, who emigrated to the Turin area of New York at around the same time as ‘my’ Owen and Catherine  came to the UK - but again, not sure.

I would love any pointers helping me find Owen and Catherine’s parents/wider families, including any possible first marriages for Owen. And finding living descendants in Ireland would be amazing! A long shot, probably, but worth a try.

Except for a few parishes, most of the RC parishes in Co. Sligo have records starting in the 1840s or later. Easky RC parish, for example, has records starting in 1864.

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find a baptismal record in Co. Sligo for a Michael Cavanagh with a father Owen. There was an 1831 Owen Cavanagh marriage in Kilglass parish to a Hanna Cunnane but likely that was too early for your Owen.

I did not locate any Owen Cavanagh baptismal records in Co. Sligo.

On the Tithe listings from 1828-1833, I did find a Darby Kenny in Carrownrod townland Easky civil parish and likely this was Catherine's father? See the bottom of the page at this link

I also located a James Cavanagh in the same townland ( further up on the page)

So I think we know where Owen and Catherine came from but no church records would be available.

There were four Kenny/Kenney families in Carrownrod in the 1901 census but no Cavanagh records.

I'm so very sorry -  thought I had replied earlier but it seems to have disappeared.

Thank you so much for  the  effort  you've gone to on my behalf. Although it's disappointing that there are no church records to find, I would rather know that than continue a futile search!

I see the Kennys in 1911 too, but still no Cavanaghs.  I wonder where they went?

I've also been pointed toward Derby's dog  licences - he had a black and  white common cur!

Thanks again so much  for your help
