We are searching for our family's history, last name Kearns (have also seen it as Karns).  We've found Patrick Karns, born 1829 in Dublin and baptized at Arran Quay.

We think he may have married Catherine (Cath) McCarty in St. Michael's parish in Kingstown on 30 September 1850, but have found conflicting information that he arrived in the U.S. in 1846.

Does anyone have any information on the family?  We'll be visitng soon and are hoping to find family sites or distant cousins to visit.

Thanks very much,
Tim

  • I have a connection to a likely Tomas Kearns (spellings vary including Keirans, Kierans, Kerns) His daughter Ellen Theresa Kearns married Patrick Connor in the Kingstown area of Ballybrack and raised children in Glasthule. Any connections here. No knowledge of the father coming to the USA but Ellen did to Waterbury CT after the death of her husband.

I have a public family tree on heritage and ancestry

  • Hi Tim, a bit late , only saw your query now.    The birth in Arran Quay suggests St Pauls.  Had a look without any success,  There was a Patt kearns in 1829  in the Pro Catdl. to aPatt and Brigid Kearns.  Had a look at st Michaels Dun Laoighe,( British Kingstown) and found the Marriage as you said  witness was  William Lonigan , said they lived in Kingstown.   Looked a little further and found a Mary born to a Patk. and Catherine Kearns, Sponsors were A Wm.  it looked like Concanon ? and Eliz.Leonard.  Didnt look any further. You may not be there anymore and dont  know when they emigrated.    Best
