I'm searching for my LALLY ancestors or anyone with the surname LALLY living in Ardrahan, Beagh, Scalp  or Kilchreest.

Patrick Lally & Mary Grady were married in Beagh in 1860.  Their children (Mary, Kate, Catherine, Bridget, Delia, John, Margaret, Michael, Martin, Helen and Patrick) were born in Beagh, Scalp and Ardrahan between 1864 and 1884.

I have been searching for decades with very little to go on.  I believe Patrick (Patt) was a farmer and died young.  Most of Patt & Mary's children emigrated to the United States of America and lived in Holyoke, Massachusetts and Swanzey, New Hampshire.

** If you have information on Lally's in cemeteries in these areas, or can put me in touch with Lally's living in these areas I would be very grateful for any information.

    Dear Robin,

Having researched the Lally/Grady family genealogy , I have come up with the following:-

    • Pat Lally, Scalp, parish of Kilchreest married Mary Grady, parish of Beagh in Beagh parish church, Shanaglish on 15 October 1860. Marriages  always took place in bride's parish.

Their children were born in Scalp and baptised in Kilchreest

    • Martin (1877-1965) stayed in Scalp and was married in 1908 to Ellen Gilmore (1874-1963).

from the Ballinrobe area of County Mayo. It was unusual to marry someone so far away but Ellen may have been working in South County Galway.

They had five children: Patrick 1910, Mary 1911, Thomas 1912, John 1913 and Martin 1916.

    • Patrick married Mary Roche (Roache) in 1932. He moved into her house nad farm in nearby Gortardrigan, parish of Kilthomas (Peterswell). They had four sons:- Johnny, Paddy, Mattie, Thomas.
    • Mary married Martin Duffy. Had a son, Eugene.
    • Thomas remained unmarried in Scalp. Scalp was often called Castledaly.
    • I have no further information on John.
    • Martin married in England and had family.
    •
    • Patrick's son, Johnny, inherited the Scalp farm from his unmarried uncle Thomas.
    • Paddy lives in Gort. He is in his late 80s and has dmentia. A good religious man. He has two sons (may have more) John and Patrick. If you want to make contact your best chance is to contact John and his wife Bernadette. Just write "John and Bernadette Lally, Crossford, Gort, Co. Galway."
    • Paddy's brother, Mattie, lives in a nursing home in Gort.
    • Mattie lives in a nursing home in Gort.
    • No information on Thomas.

I'll try to upload a genealogical diagram.

Please do not hesitate to contact me,

    de Lourdes Fahy
