G'day

I am seeking relatives of my great grandfather Mathew Keogh. Matthew came to Australia in 1881 from County Clare. He was sponsored by his uncle Timothy Keogh( Timothy died in 1899 & his family continued to prosper in Australia ) In 2010 I had a Family history search done by the Clare Heritage centre & they identified possible links still in Ireland. The village of Binvoran was identified as a possible place that Mathew had come from but I cannot find any further info. Mathews parents were listed as Pat & Jane on his immigration records. These people could be identified as living in the village but there was no mention of Matthew. Further info details from the 1934 electoral register identified a Timothy Keogh ( ? nephew of Matthew) who married Teresa Fitzgerald in the village of Binvoran. The marrige record shows Timothy Keogh was the son of Patrick Keogh a farmer and Teresa Fitzgerald was the daughter of Charles Fitzgerald a farmer of Tullycrine.

I am hoping to connect with any relatives of Matthew who may still reside in this area or anyone who may have knowledge of the family. I was planning a trip to Ireland in 2020 but that has been delayed due to COVID 19.

Kind Regards Anne McDonald. This post updated 15/06/2020..

  • Hi Anne:

I believe that the townland is binvoran and that is in the civil parish of Kilmurry-Clonderlaw.  There are references and source available through the Clare Library:

    http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/places/kilmurry_clonderlaw.htm

In the meantime, I will pass this onto other West Clare volunteers who may be able to offer further guidance, as promised.

    All the best,

    Jane

  • Hi Jane, Sorry I have not seen this reply until now. I seem to have been locked out of the conversation site.

I will be in Ireland in August this year but I will not be in the area near my family search. I will continue to keep searching online looking and hope to find my family & visit in the future.

    Thanks. Kind regards Anne.

  • I am also researching the Keogh Family from Binvoran, County Clare. Timothy Keogh who died in Wingham, NSW, in 1899, also sponsor my husband's uncles, Michael and Matthew, and his aunty, Honarah. My husband and I will be travelling to Ireland in April 2023 and intend on visiting Binvoran. Any assistance you could give us in finding any connections in the area would be gratefully received.
