I am searching for information about my great great grandfather Richard Trotter b 1797 (or 1799) In County Cavan Ireland. He died in Leeds County, Ontario  Canada 15 April 1876 and was buried in an Anglican Cemetery in Portland Ontario. He married Garzella Marianne Netterfield who was born in Ireland circa 1804 and died in Leeds County, Ontario Canada 28 August 1890.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

It looks like the Church of Ireland records for Annagh (Belturbet) parish around 1802 or so. The subscription site Roots Ireland has the records but when I searched the earliest record was in 1812 and the father was Thomas Trotter.

The 1825 Tithe listings for Annagh parish has a number of Trotter records mostly Alexander and Sandy.

The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing shows four Trooter entries in the parish  https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/cavan/annagh.htm

Can I suggest that you add Thomas' story to our XO Chronicles site and possibly someone will see a connection  https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…

Did you search for prior Trotter messages on our message board?

    Have you considered DNA testing?

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Roger,

Thank you for the information. I will follow up on Thomas Trotter. I have searched the message board for Trotter and a person named Gemma has reached out to me because of a strong DNA match. She has Trotters who came from County Cavan. I have done the Ancesstor DNA test and I have a significant percntage UK and Ireland. My mother's father was a (de) Boynton which was originally Norman pre 1100. The balance was western European originating in the Flemish part of northwestern France. We Canadians who traveled from Ireland and the UK in the 1600's. 1700's and 1800's are a blend of evrything Europe including the Vikings.

    Best wishes,

  • You can also load your raw Ancestry DNA data to a volunteer site called Genesis Gedmatch www.genesis.gedmatch.com  Genesis will provide matches with people who tested with other companies and also loaded their data to Genesis Gedmatch.

  • I'm interested in this conversaton as my wife is a descendant of Richard and Grizella (nee Netterfield), and Byingtons (ancestrally Boynton, through Yorkshire).  What's the source of Richard being born in Belturbet Redhills (which is where the Netterfield also come from?).
