I'm Australian. My family, the Cavanagh family, has lived for many generations in a region of New South Wales called the Dorrigo Plateau. In fact, my great-great-grandfather was the first white settler there.
I've only just found out that Emlaghfad is where we come from, that in 1821 Thomas Cavanagh/Kaveney was convicted and sent to Australia with his wife Mary and their child. That's all I've been able to find of our Irish ancestry, but at least now I had a place.
So of course I jumped on Google Street view to see what Emlaghfad looked like, and my jaw dropped.
See, this is what Dorrigo looks like...

No Steve, No it is not scary!!!!
What you do is this.........not google earth ...it's up to date. you paste the word Emlaghfad into a search as google and you get this.....
Emlaghfad this is the map.
Emlaghfad Townland, Co. SligoAs you have 1821 you use this
The Tithe Applotment Books, 1823-37
These are the Thomas Cavangh names........... as he left Ireland in 1821 you would need his fathers name.
The Tithe Applotment Books, 1823-37
This link is the Parish records for Catholic people. These are before your Thomas. Sorry.
A lot of digging required.
The Tithe records (above) are from 1823 to 1837
1837 to 1864 are the Griffiths Valuation records. I have checked the townland and no sign of Cavanagh.
But there are two Kaveney listed in Griffiths Valuation too far away from yours in Sligo. If I think of anything else I will update. ok
Good luck someone on here will help they are very good.
