I also have McFadden ancestors from Raymunterdoney parish. They lived in Derryreel West townland. I looked at the 1901 census for the parish and there were quite a few Harkin families in Ray.

There is a Facebook page devoted to Falcarragh, Crossroads, Gortahork and Gweedore  https://www.facebook.com/groups/176041022429045

Have you taken a DNA test? Maybe we can compare if you have taken a test.

  • There’s a death here for a Rose Harkin (spinster) who died in Ray in 1893 aged 60, and was the daughter of Andrew Harkin. Her age and father’s name makes her a contemporary of your Patrick, and obviously she could be Patrick’s sister. But there were obviously several Harkin families in Ray, so I don't know for certain that it’s yours.

The informant was Rose’s brother Andrew. Here’s his death in 1894 aged 60. His wife was Catherine.

  • Hi  Roger thank you so much for your reply and apologies for my taking so long to reply to you I have been trying to get my new NBN internet service repaited and its taken forever, so please to back online now. Sounds like we may be related. Patrick and  Celia were married by James Mcfadden who was the Parish Priest at the time in Falcarragh I also believe he assisted in organising their passage to Sydney on the ship  the Abyssinian in 1962 through the Donegal Relief fund along with people from the Derryveigh evictions. Is he a relative of yours?

I have done a DNA test and I have uploaded my reults to Gedmatch my kit # on there is TM2 1666 35 it would be great to see if we are a match I have not worked out how to use gedmatch very well yet.I have downloaded my results for Inishowen Donegal project today I am amember of their facebook group are you?
