Hi all.

I just joined. Still trying to figure out the site. Have been looking for my 3x g. grandfather's family. He immigrated in the 1840's and settled in Allegany County in Western Md. I have found his grave and will be returning to see what else I can find in the library there. His daughter, Bridget is my relative. I have run into a brick wall. So many conflicting dates, so many of the same names. Michael had a brother Patrick that eventually ended up in Wisconsin.  So any help would be appreciated.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Likely your Michael was born in the 1820s. The subscription site Roots Ireland has a number of Michael Cosgrave/Cosgrove baptismal records in the 1820s. You will need to see if you can identify his parents names so we can possibly confirm one of these records. The other issue is that many RC churches do not have records back to the 1820s so possibly a baptismal record does not exist.

  • Thank you so much Roger! That's been my thought as well. Since I know 2 of his brother's names, I thought I could compare parents names. But so far I've not come up with a match. I wish there was a concentration of Cosgrove's that I could talk with when I'm in Ireland over the summer. :) It just might be a brick wall.
