Hi,

Would anyone be able to help with a baptism for my gg gf?

George Lovett b c 1800. Army record shows place of birth for him (and younger brother Adam b c 1810) as Drumlane/Belturbet.

CoI as far as I am aware.

Othr members of family are

Jane c 1794 (place unknown)

James place and date unknown

William c 1805 place unk

Charles

Irwin bet 1810-15 (army- died c 1836)

Mary Ann c 1828 place unk

Parents were James (d 1831 place unk) and Mary Ann (Irwin) - supposedly mar c 1796 place unk.

There are Lovetts living Drumlane in later 1800's but I have not been able to connect them to this family who were living in Killashandra in 1841

George married c 1842 to Margaret Biggs of Drumbullion, Killashandra (at a place unk) two children were born - William c 1843, John c 1845 (both place unknown) and the family moved to Glasgow c 1845/6. In 1847 they emigrated to NZ- where they are much easier to track !

I don;t know what Drumlane records are available? I am based in NZ.

Many thanks

Jane

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

This link https://www.ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/registers…;  shows you the availability of Church of Ireland parish registers across Ireland.

The earlier records for Drumlane C of I parish were lost in the 1922 Public Records Office fire in Dublin. However, there are record in 187s on the subscription site Roots Ireland starting 1876.

Belturbet is actually in Anna/Annagh civil parish and Roots Ireland does have records for this parish starting in 1801-1802. There are five baptismal records for the following children of George and Jane Lovett: Margaret 1807 Joseph 1809 Jane 1815  John 1819 Charles 1824 Not sure how they may connect to your ancestors.

The only Lovett baptismal records I could locate with father James were in Cavan town: See below.

  • Thank you very much, so if he was baptised Drumlane the records are lost :-(

The James you have found must be another family unfortunately as George's father died in 1831 and the daughter Jane was already in America by 1841 bc 1794, They are almost certainly related I suspect. Likewise not sure how the family in Annagh relate- I have found various George's later on in the are and presume a link but don't have the earlier generation.

Lovett doesn't seem to be a very common Irish name? and I'm guessig they were originally from Scotland where the name s common along the borders.

Once again thanks this kight be the final brick wall- I got lucky when I found them in the 1841 census so church records woul be super lucky ;-)

    Regards

    Jane
