Im trying to find out whether Thomas Swift & Mary Ellen Smyth had any children.

Mary Ellen was born circa 1876 to Thomas Smyth & Catherine Cassidy while Thomas was born c 1869 to John Swift.

Thomas Swift & Mary Ellen where from Fermanagh in particular the areas of, Aghalurcher, Enniskillen & Maquiresbridge

  • The couple married in the RC Chapel in Enniskillen on the 22 November 1904, and residence for Thomas is shown as Liverpool. I dont see any sign of children to the couple in the civil records in Ireland up to 1916.

    There's a possible match for them on the 1911 English census at Bootle, Lancashire on FamilySearch showing Thomas Swift a Dock Labourer age 32 born LIsnaskea Fermanagh, and wife Mary Ellen age 33 also born Lisnaskea. With them is their son John Vincent age 3. (You need to create a free account with FamilySearch website to see the census transcript).

    A search of the GRO UK records for birth in England/Wales show several possible additional children (the online index covers births up to 100 years ago) :

    (John Vincent born 1907)
    Catherine Lucy born 1910  (no sign of Catherine on the 1911 census - possibly died young)
    Mary Elizabeth born 1911
    Thomas born 1914

    You can order birth certs on the website to see the full details, such as parents names, father's occupation etc.
