Thomas Walsh b Kinvara, occupation butler, married Elizabeth (Eliza) Shea b Gort, in RC parish of Kinvara about 1831.  They migrated to New South Wales 1865 on 'Star of Brunswick' - also their daughter Ellen 16yrs b Kinvara and Mary Murphy 28yrs b Kinvara.

Deposit for all 4 fares was paid by David Roche (b abt 1827 near Castleisland, Kerry), son-in-law, married to their daughter Margaret Josephine Walsh b abt 1842(married St Brendan's, Loughrea 1861, migrated 'Severn' 1863).  Eliza Walsh's death cert states that Margaret and Ellen were living and 4 males and 3 females deceased.  I have no info on any of these children.

Thomas and Eliza are my ggggrandparents.  Any info about this couple and any other family members gratefully accepted.

  • Hi Julie,

I read with interest your request for information about Thomas Walsh and Mary Shea. I am looking for members of the Walsh family from Kinvara in the mid nineteenth century. My great great great grandparents are John Nolan and Catherine Walsh.  They also had a daughter called Ellen and that makes me think that there may be a family connection here. Also three of their children emigrated to Australia and four to New Zealand.

You said that on Eliza's death certificate that only two children were listed as living. Could you please let me know Eliza's death date and then I can further research her and Thomas to see if I can find any other connections. I am definitely interested in knowing the names of all of their children to see if the naming pattern matches what I have.

Hoping to hear from you soon, Karen
