Hello, Can anyone please look at the marriage certificate below and help me undertand the placename where the groom is from?  It is a marriage certificate from Moynalty, on June 2, 1860.  It is the marriage of John McBride and Bessie McMahon.

I cannot decipher where John is from.  Maie? Can anyone help?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.    Barbara

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The place name is Maio. I found this 2007 thread on the Internet and it will give you some good background. I believe our parish liaison from Moynalty is one of the commenters on the thread. You can e-mail Catherine at moynalty@irelandxo.com and I'm sure she will provide more background.
