A fantastic resource for figuring out the pronunciation (and meaning) of an Irish placename is: logainm.ie.

Click here for a list of townlands in the parish of  Killummod

Where you see a PLAY button, you can hear a recording of the pronunciation in its Anglicized and original Irish (Gaelic) forms.

Be sure to click on the blue buttons falling under "Archival Records" to discover, not only a translation of the meaning of the name, but a list of alternative spellings (and any alternative names) for your selected townland. Also check out this thesis for an even more comprehensive list of alternative / historical placenames (per townland) in the barony of Boyle.

These spelling alternatives (that SoundEx won't help you with) will proved invaluable in your searches through 19th century records.
