The Gerard Byrne Studio is delighted to virtually open its doors for our online gallery tour, ‘Pause for Harmony. Art in Lockdown’. The virtual exhibition tour is accessible to everyone across the world.

The collection showcases works completed by Gerard Byrne in Dublin City during the spring and early summer, while the country was in lockdown. In many ways, the exhibition forms a visual documentation of this unforgettable moment in the history of the city. The tranquility so tangible within Byrne’s artwork is symbolic of the way in which the period of lockdown became, for Byrne and for many, a chance to reflect and pause the humdrum pace of ‘normal’ life.

For those unable to travel to Dublin, whether you are within Ireland or overseas, the virtual 360 degree tour allows you to take a stroll within Dublin city and along the South Dublin coastline, through Byrne’s captivating paintings. Find yourself transported to streets lined with red brick Georgian buildings, back to the early summer sunshine and flowers. The virtual tour presents the opportunity to bring communities together through art and to connect the Irish diaspora with Dublin.

The virtual tour is both interactive and innovative with a variety of features that bring you closer to the artworks and the experience of being in the gallery, such as;

  • Commentary audio recordings from the artist.

  • Read press publications and watch The Irish Times and RTE News videos

  • The magnifying glass feature which allows you to see each painting in greater detail.

  • Information on the dimensions and medium of each artwork.

  • The innovative ‘on the wall’ feature, which allows you to get a sense of scale of each artwork.

  • The ability to make an enquiry or a direct purchase of a painting from the online store.
