Hi

My Great Grandfather was Baptised 13 Oct 1845 • Aghagallon, Antrim, Northern Ireland. Does anyone know if the records will show his parents names. I believe they maybe William and Margaret Lavery. I am unsure of Margaret's maiden name but it maybe Colgan or Corrigan.

Joseph Charles Lavery and Agnes Barnett were also married 31 Dec 1884 at St Malachy's, Antrim, Northern Ireland - a second marriage for both. Joseph to Margaret Green and Agnes to William Anderson.

Any help greatfully accepted.

Thanks

Ann

  • Ann,

The baptism entry is on-line on the NLI site. It says Joseph Lavery of William & Margaret Colgan. Sponsors Joseph Lavery & Debra McIlroy. The fee was 2/6d which was standard for that parish which suggests they were of average financial circumstances.

I looked for the family in the 1851 census (part of Aghagallon has survived) but did not find it.

Joseph’s first marriage to Margaret Green was registered on 5.2.1869 in Craigavon (Lurgan) registration area. Agnes Barnett’s first marriage to William Anderson was registered in Belfast on 13.6.1878. Joseph Lavery’s second marriage to Agnes Anderson was registered in Belfast on 31.12.1884. Joseph’s surname is incorrectly indexed under Savery instead of Lavery.

You can view the original civil certificates on-line on the GRONI website, using the “search registrations” option:

You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate.

  • Hello Elwyn

Thank you for the information you have found for me - it iw wonderful. I have been putting off opening an account with Geni but I will do so now. I guess you could say it is the thought of paying nearly AUD$5.00 for the wrong certificate that has stopped me.

Thank you again for this information - you are wonderful.

    Kind regards

    Ann
