Looking for Patrick McGovern/McGovran's - parents- home - and where his parents graves. Unsure of the last name because in U.S. records we are McGovran in Canada it is McGovern. Was moving along pretty good on this stuff on U.S. side not so well on the Canda side. All I know on Patrick is he was born in Ireland around the early to mid 1820s and emigrated to Canda in the 1840s. Married to Mary Murphy in Canda and had several childern - John (birth 1848)- James (birth 1850)- Thomas(birth 1852)- Dorothea (birth 1854)- William (birth 1856)- Bridget (birth 1857)- Phillip (birth 1859)- Mary E. ( birth 1860)- Patrick (birth 1865)- George (birth 1867)- Margaret (birth 1871). Patrick lived in- Farnham, Brome, Quebec, Canada. Close as I can get on his death was around 1892. As I said not sure were he was born other than Ireland. It was suggested by IRO to try this county and see what happens.

I am also hunting the same for Timothy Sweeney born Ireland around 1828, emigrated to U.S. about 1849, mother was a Mary Wallace and father is beleaved to be a John Sweeney. Timothy's mother emigrated to the U.S. beleaved after John's death, she shows up in U.S. census in 1870. My family and I think my grandma said Timothy was from Cork or Kerry though.

Thank you for any assistance, I will continue my hunt for these people and a few other family members that connect me to Ireland.

  • Hello Harley,

I would suggest that you need to start your research in the Canadian records, as this seems to be the most solid information that you have. You might be able to locate immigration records there that might state exactly where in Ireland the McGovran/McGovern's are from.

Without a more precise idea of a birth date or even when exactly they emigrated from Ireland, it is just too difficult to know even where to begin searching.

May I suggest that you put the Sweeney search on the profile pages of Counties Kerry and Cork here:

    http://www.irelandxo.com/group/county-cork and http://www.irelandxo.com/group/county-kerry

Have you tried checking the census records (US) for Mary Wallace? What information did it give you?

Hopefully someone in the local communities of these areas will be able to offer you some assistance too.

Best of luck in your research!

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,
