Seeking any information on Martin Meade b1834, parents Thomas Meade and Bridget (Biddy) McMahon. Did he emigrate to Australia and, if so where did he live?

Thanks, Peter

  • Peter,

A search of Subscription sites  www.rootsireland.ie  and  www.findmypast.ie   did not show any record for a Martin Meade in the years 1830 to 1840.

There are a number of records of Thomas/Tom Meade in County Clare - Tithe Records 1823 - 1837.

Attached is a record for the parish of Kilmacrehy (Liscannor) - Townland Ballycotteen (Ballycottin). You can access those records at www.nationalarchives.ie/Tithe/Genealogy

No marriage record found for a Thomas Meade and Bridget (Biddy) McMahon.

  • G'day McCoy,

Thanks for getting back to me. I have Martin's Baptism details but not much else. The records seem to be fairly scarce around that time.

  • Peter,

Clare library  -  clarelibrary.ie has a record for the parish of Clareabbey of a Martin Meade with parents: Thomas Meade and Bid McMahon. Baptismal Sponsors:

Pat Ahern and Mary Ahern - Donated material.

The address is Manus which apparently is referring to Manusmore, approx. 1 mile South of Clarecastle Village.

I have checked the record up to 1841 for a sibling to Martin. None found.

No Meade recorded for Manusmore - Tithe Records or Griffith's - 1823 to 1855.

There is a James Meade in the townland of Killow - Tithe record - This townland is in Clareabbey parish and close to Manusmore.

A possibility is a Thomas Meade recorded in the Petty Sessions in Newmarket-on-Fergus in 1847. His address - Ballycar - which is approx 3 miles - overland -

    from Manusmore.

    Regards,

  • G'day McCoy,

Thanks for all the info. I have baptism records for Martin Meade and his brothers, but not much else for Martin. I have been trying to find out what happened to Martin to close the loop for him. Did he emigrate to (Australia?) or did he stay in Ireland?

Also any details/info on the marriage of Thomas Meade and Bridget (Biddy) McMahon would be appreciated.

  • Peter,

Clare Library -  clarelibrary.ie has Patrick: baptised February 22nd 1837. Sponsors: Darby Ahern (Dermot) and Elizabeth Kelly and

Thomas: March 3rd 1843 - Sponsors: Pat Ahern and Nancy Ahern.

Both with the address - Manus

Record for John 1850 and Henry 1852 attached.

Address for John is Toonagh - Civil parish of Clooney. Toonagh townland is on the Ennis to Tulla road - No. 352

    No definite address for Henry.

It appears that the family were not settled in any particular townland?

Please let me know if the two records relate to your family.

  • G'day McCoy,

Yes, John and Henry are my distant ancestors and brothers to Martin. Martin would be my Gt/Gt Uncle. WE both seem to be hitting the same problem of lack of reliable records and think I will park the issue for the moment.

Thank you for your time and efforts in assisting me.

    Peter,

Attached is a record of the death of a Thomas Meade in the townland of Ardsolus, Parish of Quin in 1881.

He is described as a "Herdsman" and his death was reported by Bridget Meade.

Ardsolus is on the road from Dromoland to Quin and only a short distance from Manusmore.

The fact that no property record was found in Manusmore for Thomas Meade could indicate that his

    employment was other than farming.

No record found in either the 1901 or 1911 Irish census for Bridget Meade.

Best Wishes in your continued search.

  • G'day McCoy,

Thank you for that death record. It gives Thomas a birth date of 1798 which I have seen on other areas. He also has birth dates of 1810 and 1818 approximately. The fact that Bridget Meade reported same is very interesting.

    Regards,

    Peter
