Could "Drumleigh" have been mistakenly written instead of Drumline? I have not had much success in trying to trace this family back in Ireland using the word "Drumleigh" which is how various documents in Australia have it written.

Thomas Carrick and Julia Ryan were apparently married in Drumleigh, County Clare, according to shipping records and birth certificates for later children born in Victoria, Australia.

Thomas (aged 27) and Julia (24) travelled to Australia in 1850 with their daughter Catherine who was an infant on the ship the "Reliance".  They arrived on 19 March 1850. Thomas was listed as a House servant.

Julia is listed as being from Kings County on her Death Certificate, but marrying in County Clare.

When I saw this parish name on this website, I thought it was worth an email to check this out.

  • Hi,

I checked www.seanruad.com which is the 1851 census townland directory and found this / these townland(s) (DROMLEIGH) in Cork County, (Munster Province).  There are two townlands of this name in Cork or one that straddles borders.  This / these townland(s) are in either Kilmichael or Kilguilane Civil Parish.

    Good luck to you.

  • Hello again,

I've checked Brian Mitchell's "A Guide to Irish Churches and Graveyards for the Cork parishes of Kilgullane and Kilmichael and found this:

Kilguillane parish has only a graveyard in Kilguilland townland (No churches)

Kilmichael parish has two Roman Catholic Churches at:

    - Cooldorragha Townland

    - Johnstown Townland

and one Established Church (Church of Ireland) at:

    - MoneycrusherTownland

    - and Dromleigh Townland is also in this parish

See Irish Times parish map and description here: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/townlands/index.cfm?fuseaction=TownlandsInCivil&civilparishid=244&civilparish=Kilmichael&citycounty=North-West Cork

    Best wishes,
