The X-PO’s first film in its autumn/winter documentary series is called A Lonely Voice ; Frank O’Connor.
A Lonely Voice is directed by renowned Cork film maker, Pat Collins.
The film will screen on Thursday October 11th at 8.30 p.m.
2018 marks the 115th anniversary of the birth of one of Ireland’s greatest writers, Frank O'Connor.
A Lonely Voice is the first documentary to comprehensively explore the life and work of O’Connor
and examine his importance as a short story writer, translator and his role as a “public intellectual”.
It is also an intimate portrayal and we hear the insights of his daughter Liadain,
his son Owen and his wife Harriet O’ Donovan Sheehy.
Through them we learn of his complicated private life, his relationships and his battles with Irish society.
Other interviewees include the American writer Richard Ford and
poets Thomas McCarthy, John Montague and Liam O’Muirthuile.
The X-PO is honoured that Frank O’Connor’s daughter Liadain will present the film on the evening.
