James Doolan born 1794 with wife Margaret (nee Hayes)born abt 1798 and 5 of their 6 children sailed from Plymouth 5th March 1852.

The children's names were:--John,Mary,Anne,Martin,Michael and James and were born in the period of 1832-1841.

County Clare is the only given reference to place of origin.

The Tithe Applotment Record 1823-1837 shows John,James,Simon,Michael and Patrick Doolan listed in the Parish of Killinaboy.

The Griffiths Valuation !855 records 7 out of 12 Doolan entries as domiciled in Killinaboy.

Could you advise if Marriage & Birth records are available in the Parish of Killinaboy for this period?

The ship's register records the family as Roman Catholic.

  • Hi,

For Killinaboy civil parish there were Roman Catholic churches at Bunnanagat South Townland and the Town of Corrofin (on Church Street).  There are also graveyards at Coad Townland, Corrofin , Killinaboy towlanda and Kilvoyden townland.

The Clare Library shows these records as starting in 1819 but certainly these are not complete.

    Civil Parish: Killinaboy
    RC Parish: Corofin
    Diocese: LK
    Earliest Record: b. 4.1819; m. 1.1818
    Missing Dates: b. 1.1837; m. 2.1844-1.1859
Parish Address: The Parish Priest, Corofin, Co. Clare

    Hope that helps.

    Best regards,

    James McNamara

can you advise if the catholic church at Bunnanagat has a parish priest and an address?

RE your email Earliest Record: b=birth 4.(does this indicate a total?)

I read that the Kilnaboy History & Heritage Group has nearly completed the documentation of gravealabs etc in both  Kilnaboy & Coad graveyards---can you suggest a contact address?

  • Hi Leo,

The old church at Bunnanagat South townland must no longer be there as the Killaloe Diocese search brings up no results.  See: http://www.killaloediocese.ie/

    Leo,

The old church was within the Roman Catholic Parish of Rath and included some or all of the civil parishes of Killinaboy and Rath.  (Killinaboy civil parish includes the Roman Catholic church in the townland of Bunnanagat South)

The parish records have NOT been filmed by the Family History Library (LDS) but have been filmed by National Library and is available there on Positive films 2474 and 2475.  These films for baptism and marriage records go from 1819 through 1880.   See: http://www.nli.ie/  I think you can find a list of researchers for hire somewhere on the site.

You can commission research from the Corofin Heritage Centre (not cheap) as they have transcribed these parish registers from 1819 through 1900.  See: http://www.rootsireland.ie/

I found this decription of the Heritage Group but they do not have a web site that I could find.

Kilnaboy History & Heritage Group: In the last decade, a dedicated group of interested Kilnaboy people got together to maintain & improve our local graveyards of both Kilnaboy & Coad. This evolved from an interest into a passion and has now developed into a fully fledged History & Heritage Group. The group at present are involved in several ongoing projects one of which is almost completed, namely the documentation of the graveslabs & stones in both graveyards.

Someone at this site may have the contact information you need for the heritage center; see: http://www.farmheritagetours.com/

    Hope that helps,

    Best wishes,
