I'm researching James, Patrick and Martin MASON in the townlands of Cloghoolia and Derrynaveagh.  One of my MASON - Hanora, daughter of James Mason & Bridget Hayes -  married Moloney - Michael, son of Timothy.  Both MASON and MOLONEY have been residents in these townlands back to at least 1855.                                                                                                                                                            At this time, all I know is......... James b. 1814 d. 1904.  His death records lists Mary CARMODY as granddaughter.                                                                                                                                       Patrick b. 1818  d. between 1900 and 1912.  Two sons Patrick and James.

I have lots and lots of info!  Would like to obtain church records and/or burial information from St. Senan in Kilkishen and in what cemetery the deceased dying in Cloghoolia would be intered.

Thanks for any help.

You may want to check the 1827 Tithe listings for Clonlea civil parish at www.titheapplotmentbooks.ie I found two Molony and two Malony records plus two Mason records.

Here is the link to St. Senans. Looks like a very small parish. You may want to contact the diocesan offices in Killaloe to see if they can assist you.

Later this summer the National Library of Ireland plasn to place all RC parish registers online for free searching.

  • Thank you Roger,

I have these Tithe records you mention and have recently emailed the parish priest at St. Senans.

I hope the parish records will give me marriage information which would help me determine if James d. 1904 is my gr gr grandfather and maybe the relationship to him and Martin, Patrick and John.

  • Hi Judith:

Thanks for your query to Ireland Reaching Out.  Cloghoolia townland is located in Clonlea, but very close to the parish of Sixmilebridge.  It is possible that the records might be in those parish registers.

I will ask the parish secretary in Sixmilebridge for you and see what she has to say.  I'll email you back on this thread.

    Kind regards,

    Jane.

  • Hello Jane,

It's been a year plus since we last corresponded. I have hit the proverbial brick wall and wonder now if you ever received any information from the Sixmilebridge parish secretary.

Thanks in advance for any information.

  • Hi Judith:

I have heard nothing back from the Sixmilebridge parish secretary, but I will follow up again.  In the meantime, you might try to email her yourself and see if she responds to you:

    office@sixmilebridgeparish.ie

I'll do the same.  If I hear anything, I'll get back to you via this thread.

    Thanks for the reminder.

    All the best,

    Jane.

  • To all who responded to my post and anyone who might be interested:   A number of years ago I had corresponded with P.J. Mason, owner of a B & B in Broadford, Co. Clare.  I recently discovered James and Patrick Mason of Clooghoolia are grandfather and granduncle of P.J.  P.J. advised that these two brothers were in someway related to the Masons in Sheaun/Scariff.  I know two of the Parteen Masons, Michael & Thomas of my gr gr grandfather James' family - his brothers??, had left Parteen to purchase farms in Sheaun/Scariff possibly early 1800's.                                                                                                                   I have more Co. Clare Mason information than I know what to do with :)  If only I could connect all and proove my relationship.  Anyone wishing any of my information or wanting to share their's can contact me directly at judith.mason@me.com

  • William Ryan, Do you know if any " Mason" had a son Charles, Ralph, or Ed Mason ? b- abt 1835-38.  In US about 1854 or prior? He married Ellen Griffin or Ellen Torpy, nomarriage record as yet, so may have married in US? First son b- was John Mason b- US NY/ or NJ 1854 . I later find a relative John Griffin b-1837 Limerick, marrid a Margaret Ryan married 1863 Limerick.

Any information appreciated, thank you, Dotty R
