We are Robert and Patricia Sheehan of  Queensland Australia and will be holidaying in Caherelly County Limerick during August 2013.

We would love to trace the Sheehan family which we think lived in Newmarket on Fergus.  As far as we can determine  Rob's  grandfather James(Jas)  Joseph(Jos) Sheehan was born about 1862/1864

We think James' father was Michael Sheehan (farmer) and his wife was Ellen Skeehan/Casey/Sheehan?

If anyone has any information about the Sheehan clan we would love to hear from them and possibly catch up and share a coffee with you - or preferably a Guinness or two - while we are in Caherelly on a home exhchange

  • Robert:

Below is the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household data for Tomfinlough parish in Clare which includes Newmarket on Fergus. There is a Michael Sheehan on Sixmilebridge Road in Newmarket. which I presume is your great-grandfather. Griffiths does not provide any other family data. You may want to look at sites such as www.irishgenealogy.ie or www.familysearch.org to see if you can get any information on the children of Michael and Ellen.
