Looking for my roots and it all seems to point back to Ballymacoda area in Cork, my 2GG was a Micheal Gleeson born 1832 in Cork, baptised 03/06/1832 in Cobh parish sponsers David Hayes,Catherine Sullivan, Married to Catherine Mellerick 08/02/1855 at Ballymacoda. Sponsers John Kirk, Jehr Mcgrath. Children are Johanna 27/02/1856 sponsers Muarice Mellerick Joan Gleeson, Patrick 02/01/1857 sponsers Abby Mulrick Pat Finn, Hannah 25/09/1859 sponsers Mathew Mullin Mgt Gleeson. Catherine 25/08/1861 John and Ellen Melrick, Variations of spelling of Mellirick. Emigrated to Australia, arriving Melbourne 11/06/1863, have the details of both Gleeson's and Mellirick's in Australia, its the start of the tree I am chasing, Michael's father could be a John Gleeson who married a Johanna Walsh, that's all I have any help would be greatly appreciated....Peter

The subscription site Roots Ireland has the June 3 1832 baptismal record for Michael Gleeson and his parents were Patrick Gleeson and Catherine Murphy.
The baptismal records for Ballymacoda start in November 1835. The earliest Catherine Mellerick record I can find was in 1839 in Midleton. Likely your Catherine was baptized in Ballymacoda before November 1835 and the record is not available.

Hi Peter, Looking at the names of sponsors and going back on Tithe 1830 and Griffith Valuation 1850 records I think I may have located your Gleeson and Millerick families in civil parish of Kilmacdonogh east of Ballymacoda village. In Tithe 1830 records you had a James and Patrick Gleeson in townland of Ballypherode.
The Millerick families were in townland of Ballykinealy adjacent townland to Ballypherode. You had a Maurice and Thomas in 1830 and a John, Maurice and Thos in 1850. The Griffith valuation 1850 shows map location of holdings . The Millerick holdings were in lower Ballykinealy fronting on to the tidal estuary.The Gleeson holdings were across the road from Kilmacdonagh school. The James holding was held by a Johanna Gleeson in 1850. By 1850 Ptk Gleeson is not recorded as holding any land. Looking at sponsors Jerh Mcgrath he lived adjacent to Kilmacdonogh school and the Pat Finn also lived in Ballypherode and held land on the east side of the school. . It would be interesting to see if they were married to a Gleeson or its probable they may have been cousins as most neighbours inter married at that time. You also had the Maurice and John Millerick sponsors. Just one question with regard to your baptisimal record for Michael Gleeson in Cobh which would be a distance of over 25 miles away from Ballymacoda. How did you come about that record ?. There were other Gleeson and Millerick families in Ballymacoda parish but the sponsors appear to tie in here. In 1901 census you dont have any Gleeson or Millerick family living in either townland.
