  • Seeg,

I found this information on the paid site, Roots Ireland....Marriage 17 Feb 1822, Jeremiah's address Macroom, Ellen's Kilnamartryra. No parents'names are listed. Sponsors : Daniel Lynch, Ellen Healy, John Keleher

William Dineen 15 May 1824, RC parish Kilnamartyra, sponsors: John Dineen & Joan Riordan

Honora Dineen 20 May 1826, RC parish Kilnamartyra, sponsors: Jeremiah Keleher & Mary Riordan

Mary Dineen 11 Jan 1828, RC parish Kilnamartyra, sponsors: Jeremiah Keleher & Mary Dineen*

*on the church records tab on irishgeneaolgy.ie, it gives the townland of Gurlienoehane for Mary's baptism

Birth records for the RC parishes of Macroom and Kilnamartyra do not begin until 1803, so Jeremiah's and Ellen's births are not available if prior to that year.

The trees on Ancestry bring the family back a couple more generations. If you think the info I presented is accurate, I can summarize what's on the trees.

This is awesome   I didn't have any info on parents or the specific birthdays.   I will dive a little deeper on Ancestry to see what I find.

I might just have to come up with a way to travel to Ireland again in the next couple of years.

    Thank you sooo much

  • Seeg,

I would caution you about accepting the information on those many Ancestry trees referenced above as fact. The problem with the Ancestry platform is that one person adds incorrect information, and then it gets copied many times over by other users. The fact that their marriage record has Jeremiah's address as Macroom and Ellen's as Kilnamatyra (both in north west Cork) is the best evidence that those two places are where they were probably born. Those RC parishes  are adjacent to each other; and at the dawn of the 19th century, it would be unlikely that a Jeremiah from the RC parish of Passage West, and Ellen from St. Mary's Cork (both in north east Cork) would go to Kilnamatrya to marry. A couple typically married in the bride's parish. An Ancestry user simply found people with the same names, and attached the incorrect records.

I looked at the Ancestry tree with the most records for Jeremiah, and the tree shows Jeremiah had a second spouse named Catherine Kiernan. She is Jeremiah's son William's wife.  Just one example of users who do not know how to navigate Ancestry.
