Edward Sheen or Sheehan

John:

The Kinsale RC records start in January 1805 and are available for about 18 months and then there is a gap until January 1815. Here is the 19th century register https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0073

The Kinsale records are on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie (Church TAB). I searched for Sheehan and Sheen records in Kinsale for 1805 and 1806 and only located two records.

Mary Sheehan baptized February 2 1805 father John Sheehan and mother Cate Murphy

Margaret Sheehan baptized April 26 1806 father John Sheehan and mother Mary Neal.

Likely the Sheehan children were born before 1805 or some maybe in the gap period.

Thank you very much Roger for your research, I've also checked those sites with no success but was unaware of the missing years-what a mystery?

I wonder if they moved to Kinsale from somewhere else in Cork or nearby?

What do you think their parents names were based on the naming pattern? The children were Michael (married 1818), Edward b1806-1811, Daniel bc1811, Catharina and James or Jacobi but I guess there may be more?

Do you think they may have actually been born and baptised in Bandon where Michael got married?

Since we don’t know the names of the children in order, we can’t speculate on the names of the parents.

Bandon and Kinsale are 12 miles apart. Marriages were usually held in the bride’s parish. I checked and the earliest Edward Sheehan baptismal record in Bandon was an Edmond Sheehan in 1814.

SHEEN

Ó Síodhacháin comes from the Gaelic word “siodhach” which means ‘peaceful’. The Ó Síodhacháin sept originated in the barony of Lower Connello in Co. Limerick, and was part of the Dál gCais tribal grouping. The family subsequently migrated to north-east Co. Cork where they are still very numerous. Today the name is ranked as the seventy seventh most popular in Ireland.

The brother of Edward was Michael who married Ellen Driscoll 1818 at Bandon, they had 9 children born in Greenwich England, named Michael b  17 Feb 1820, James b 27 Apr 1822, Daniel b 2 May 1824, John b 27 Feb 1826, Catharina b 29 May 1828, Owen or Hugo b 8 Mar 1830, Jeremias b 18 Jun 1833, Edward or Eduardus b 22 Oct 1835 and Helena b 20 Apr 1837. All baptised at the Catholic church there.

The children had godparents named as:

Timotheus (Timothy) Collins and Maria Murphy.

Edwardus Shean and Catherina Lyons.

Daniel Shehan and Joanna Harragan.

Eugenius Driscol and Anna Driscoll

James Driscoll and Joanna (Joan) Delanny.

 Gulielmus Geary and Catharina Geary

Daniel and Helena Sheen

Eduardus Shehan and Elizabeth Shehan

William and Anna Murphy

I'm given to understand that godparents were often relations of the parents so wonder if any of these were born in Cork area? Also does Michael and Ellen's children's names give a hint as to their parents names?

The oldest son was Michael so did Michael name him after himself or was Michael's father also Michael-no way to know.

Looks like only two girls. No way to know if Helena was the mother of Michael.
