    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Do you have the death record for Franklin Monroe Sullivan which might show his parents names and where they were born? My sense is that Franklin's grandfather or great-grandfather emigrated from Ireland which means going back into the 18th century where very few church records exist. Sullivan is a very common surname in Cork and Kerry where you posted your messages but it will be extremely difficult to pinpoint where your ancestors came from without finding church records..

Have you taken a DNA test?

  • Hello Roger and thank you for the welcome and your reply to my desperate call for help.

I was fortunate enough to find another family tree that has provided another 30 people to my tree and gives me male and female relatives beyond Franklin Monroe Sullivan.

Franklin's father was William GIfford Sullivan, dates of birth and death, not known at this time..

William Gifford Sullivan was married to Nancy Caroline Bennett, born around 1833 and died around 1870.

William Gifford Sullivan's father was Elijah "Eli" W. Sullivan born around 1792 and died around 1854.

William Gifford Sullivan was married to Nancy Caroline Bennett, born about 1833 and died about 1870.

Elihah "Eli" W. Sullivan's father was Jerimiah Sullivan, borh around 1750.

Elijah "Eli" W. Sullivan was married to Alsey Alley Brown, born around 1799, date of death unknown.

Elijah "Eli" W. Sullivan's father was Jerimiah Sullivan born around 1750, date of death unknown at this time.

Jerimiah Sullivan was married to ancy Hunphries, born about 1767, date of death unknown.

Jerimiah Sullivan's father was John Sullivan, born about 1718, died about 1804.

John Sullivan was married to Lucy Dameron, born about 1729, died about 1768.

On one particular site, MyHeritage.com I was able to see that someone had used a may of Ireland for his icon in the family tree. I couldnot find any reference in his profile to where he might have come from if he immegrated directly from Ireland, but another map lead me to an apperance in North Carolona, USA where two children were born before he and the family migrated westward, eventually settling in upper, middle Tennessee, USA. From that I am drawing an assumption that if he came directly from Ireland he landed in North Carolona.

  • Bill:

My guess is that jeremiah Sullivan was born in Ireland likely in Cork or Kerry but 1750 would be too far back to find any records.

It is great that you found the other tree which gives you so much more family info.

Do you or anyone close have dna test?  If on ancestry.com or gedmatch please post their tree names. I have Sullivan ancestry and see several hints in your story above, esp the Mississippi link. I live in Australia. If there is a match I may be able to direct you where in Cork to look.
