Finally I think of found the right place...

I am searching for my Mulholland family . My great great grandmother Sarah Jane Mulholland was from Eden,Co Derry,Ireland

Sarah (Dob c1855)  & her sister Mary 'Ellen' -( Dob c1852) left Ireland in 1875 & went to New Zealand

They would have belonged to the protestant church there .

On Sarah's death certificate her parents are noted as Andrew ( Dod 19/1/ 1877)  & Matilda/' Martha'  (nee Smylie) Mulholland With some very welcome help from a member of your team(in another parish) we have tracked more of this family & located the family farm.

I  understand that the church records for baptisms were destroyed in Dublin 1922 in a  fire.

Is there any other way to trace them ??

Any information would be greatly appreciated

 Kind regards

The girls births were before the start of statutory birth registration in Ireland (1864) and so the only record for a birth in the 1850s would have been the baptism records, which are destroyed (assuming they were baptised in Tamlaght O’Crilly).  You could search for school attendance records in PRONI (the public record office). That would involve getting a researcher to look for schools in the local area around Eden and then searching to see if the attendance records have survived. Where they do exist they often name parents and siblings, as well as giving the childs age and townland.

There’s a Mulholland living today on Ballynease Rd, which is about a mile from Andrew’s farm. It’s a common name in the area so there might not be any connection but you could contact them to see if they have any knowledge of your family. (They may not know of course).
