I am interested in learning more about my great-grandfather Henry Lynch's family --born March 1832  in Ireland & died June 3, 1907 in Wabasha Co. of Minnesota (MN), USA.

One letter, talking about Henry's siblings said " WM Lynch died in Australia, George Lynch lived in Digby, Nova Scotia, Canada and one son Tom Lynch stayed in Ireland."

According to an inscription on a watch Henry Alexander Lynch was given, he left Ireland in May of 1856.

Henry's father had the same name and was in the 1865 Minnesota Territorial Census.  It is possible his wife's name was Pleasant.  I do not know where he went after this point of time, or if he died in Minnesota.

The 1865  MN Territorial Census on June 1 lists the family of Henry Lynch, Henry Lynch Jr., Matilda, Mary, Jane and Anna Hadley and George Hadley in the city of Wabasha, Co. of Wabasha, MN.  This is the first (and only)  time I have seen a name for Henry Alexander Lynch's (my g'g'fa) father.  No ages are given on this census.

Children of Henry Lynch Sr.  include;

George Lynch, born Jul 1, 1830 in Dunnkellan, Co. of Donegal, Ireland & died Oct. 5, 1910 in Digby, Nova Scotia. *

Henry Alexander Lynch, as above. *

Thomas

Mathilda S. Lynch born 1838 & died Nov. 3, 1918 in Polk Co. of MN. *

Mary P. Lynch, possibly born in 1845, in Ireland.  She was in Minnesota in the 1870 census but no information found afterwards.

Sarah Jane (she went by Jane) Lynch, born in 1848 , but this date may not be accurate; she died Jan. 12, 1927 in Tacoma, Washington, USA.*

William Lynch, went to Australia

code * - I have much more information on these persons & their families.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The family likely lived in Drumskellan townland in Muff civil parish. The 1857 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Muff parish shows a good number of Lynch records including a Thomas Lynch in Drumskellan. Likely the Thomas in your note who stayed in Ireland.

Do you know the religious denomination of your family. If they were RC records start too late. C of I and Presbyterian records start earlier. This may be Thomas and his family in the 1901 census. See below.

Let me know if you have questions.

  • This may be a duplicate reply.  I can't see where the first reply is recorded.

Henry Alexander Lynch (Jr) was Methodist in Minnesota USA.  His brother George was Church of England in the 1881 census in Digby, Nova Scotia, Canada.

It did seem like the baptismal records started after Henry was born when I visited the PRONI in Sept. 2012.  But at that time I did not know about sisters Mathilda (born 1838), Mary P.(born 1845), & Sarah Jane (born .1848).  (Birth years may not be accurate.)

  • Bev:t the diocese to see

Church of Ireland records for Muff go back close to 1800 but they are not online that I can find. If they were Methodist in Ireland, not sure about availability of records. Here is a link to the Anglican church in Donegal. If you think they were C of I then you may want to contact the diocese to see where records are kept. Maybe just at PRONI.
