Looking for info on Dennis Quigley my 4x G Grandfather born around 1833 in Iskaheen (not sure of spelling, got this from his 1st childs birth cert in Scotland) to parents Hugh Quigley (Farmer) and Mary McGuire.

Dennis moved to Greenock, Scotland around 1855 where he met and married his wife Sarah McGinnes (again vary of surname) his brother John(c1837) moved to Glasgow before moving to Greenock.

It seems that I can only find 2 children for Hugh and Mary, would love to know exactly where they came from.

A few pieces of information. The townland is Eskaheen. RC church records for Muff parish are available starting in 1858. Church of Ireland start 1803, Presbyterian start 1826.

I checked the 1858 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Muff parish and there was no Hugh Quigley listed. He may have gone to Scotland, was deceased or did not lease land.

  • Hi Roger

Cheers for having a look, I can't find Hugh in Scotlands death after 1855 but in 1863 he is seen along with his wife at their son Johns wedding in Glasgow. There may be a cert somewhere but just a case of hunting for it.

Had another look at Dennis wedding cert and it says the following, as I may of misread this.

Dennis Quigley Born and Registered on the Dec 13th 1833 at parish of Eskaheen, Londonderry, Ireland.

Parents Hugh Quigley (Farmer) and Mary McGuire

But on his 1st childs birth line it states this:- he was born Donegal

So just wondering if I might have to look at londonderry just in case it's not Muff Parish I was to look in.

    Thanks.

I was not able to locate an Eskaheen in Co. Derry. Muff parish does border Co. Derry.

  • Eskaheen is in the Derry Diocese.  As Iain stated the baptismal records start 1858.  I am presently recording B.M.D for the Parishes of Muff and Upper Moville.

  • In the Tithe Applotment Records there is a James Quigley living in Trummaty, Muff in 1837.   Now known as Tromaty.  If this is any help.
