I have noticed that some of the death records for my Irish ancestors have the initials R.D. following the placename where they died. For example, my 2nd Great Grandfather's death record says he died at Gortnacor R.D.
Do you happen to know what the R.D. means? I had thought maybe it meant registered death, but am not sure...

Hello Chris,
The R.D refers to Registration Districts. The link http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/Ireland-civil-registration.html is a helpful guide and whilst the identified ‘’ Alphabetical by counties of Ireland: civil registration districts ‘’ these are the Superintendent Registrar's District (SRD) , the districts shown on Birth, Marriage and Death records are sub-districts of these and are referred to as Dispensary District’s .
