Hello, when did taking photos of prisoners begin. I have an ancestor who was jailed in Dublin, 1874. William Henry Hillsworth. I have read accounts of his trial and conviction, and have seen a general description of him. Is there a site avaliable re photos. Many thanks.Kind Regards, Gail Smith.

  • My great grandfather was Wiliam Henry Hillsworth - Templer. The family were based in Wantage Berkshire and were in the leather trade.

  • Hi Jon,  very interested in hearing more about your Hillsworth family. I am sure my Hillsworth family did come from the UK before settling in Ireland. Interesting the same Christian names. I have seen the name Templar somewhere in my tree, will search it out. What era were your Hillsworths in Wantage..

  • Hi  Jon, have had a look and see where the Templer name comes into my tree. Our common ancestor was a Robert Singleton 1809-1887 Dublin and his wife Anne Clegg 1817-1889 Dublin. Their daughter Flora Hastings Singleton, married Charles William Templer in Dublin 1871, and Flora's sister had married a William Henry Hillsworth in 1860 also in Dublin. I see on the marriage cert for Flora and Charles, William Hillsworth was a witness. I have alot of info re the family on Ancestry and happy to share with you. Robert Singleton was my 3 x g grandfather. Unfortunately William Hillsworth was found guity of stealing alot of money from his employee and jailed for 5 years in 1875 hence why I am trying to see if there are any prisoner photos gor that era. Kind regards, Gail Smith.
