This year’s line-up features an eclectic range of performers celebrating an array of musical genres and instruments all following the “strings” theme. Only it’s second year, the Festival is hosted and curated by Ballinasloe Library.
“For such a young festival, it’s a superb line-up with a wonderful mix of classic and modern with a twist” said Sharon O’Grady, Arts Officer, Galway County Council. “Ballinasloe Library is a very welcoming and unique space and the team, led by Una Kelly are encouraging everyone to come and enjoy this dynamic celebration of strings and more.”
Headline performers this year include the internationally-renowned guitarist John Feeley and young German guitarist Daniel Marx, The Lifebouys - a vibrant 3 piece roots band, Galway’s ConTempo String Quartet and Opera singer Rachel Goode. From classical to jazz, trad to choral singing, it’s an opportunity for music lovers of all ages and tastes to enjoy live performances across a range of musical styles. A number of new, less formal elements have been introduced to the programme for 2018, with drop-in fireside jazz and trad sessions. Also, the Festival is delighted to announce their inaugural children’s event with a musically themed workshop by Anna and Donal from the inspirational Galway band My Fellow Sponges.
The Festival is supported by Creative Ireland through Galway County Council and Europe Direct as part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
All events are free, but require tickets unless otherwise indicated online.
