Wonder if anyone has any info on the Gannon family in the parish.
It's connected to my Coyne family. From what i know the father was named Thomas Gannon and they lived on a rented disparate lot between Townland of Tievegarriff and Ross. I have no dates for Thomas but according to Griffiths he lived next door to john Coyne, my 3rd great grandfather.
Thomas had a son named Philip born about 1820 in Ballynakill who married Sarah Coyne, sister to my 2nd great grandfather Tadgh Coyne.
Sarah and Philip had a daughter Catherine born there June 1847. Philip left Ireland aboard the ship Doctor Kneiss arriving in NYC 0n may 6, 1851 along with peter Coyne, Austin Walsh/ Welch, his wife Margaret O'malley and brother Stephen Walsh/ Welch and the entire family of Michael King English. The ship left from Galway.
All of these people settled in the village of Marcellus in upstate NY Sarah and daughter Catherine came over on the ship Washington arriving , Oct 30, 1854.
They had 3 more daughters in Marcellus, the last born a few months after Philip died on May 1, 1862. Sarah lived until 1903 dying in Syracuse NY.
Another child of Thomas was Ann Gannon who married Rodger Coyne (brother to Sarah). They had 2 Children Bridget and Thomas in Ballynakill before they left and came to Marcellus.
There was another brother John Gannon who was married to a Mary who also came to Marcellus. John died before 1875 census in Syracuse and in 1900 census Ann Gannon Coyne is living with Mary Gannon in Syracuse and listed as her "sister in law!" Rodger had died in 1884.
During the week i spent in the parish we met with a man named Gannon who had owned a pub near Ross and told him the info above and he says he'd never heard of a Gannon marrying a Coyne and it struck me as possibly there had been a feud between the families or one family was viewed as "lesser" than the other but i knows 2 Gannons who married Coynes!! haha
Any info would be appreciated!!
Thanks
