On Tuesday the 25th of February we held our first Chronicles Workshop at Loughrea Library. Our attendees, many of whom are members of the Loughrea Activity Group, braved the Spring snow to learn how they can use the IrelandXO website to connect with the Irish diaspora and help to create a snapshot of their civil parish in days gone by.

Chronicles Workshop Loughrea Library February 2020

We started the day by getting everyone signed up to the website. Once this was accomplished we were ready to start interacting with our own civil parishes. We learned about how to search for and join a parish so that we receive updates on that particular area. We walked through the various chronicles in each parish, Ancestors, Buildings, and Timelines. Then it was time for us to add our own ancestors. The group were tasked with adding their parents to the Chronicles, which they managed with ease, given a little guidance.

The overall reaction to the Workshop was a positive one, with many attendees saying that they would like to have a follow-up and that they were looking forward to using the website more when they got home. Keep an eye out for upcoming events in your county as we bring the Chronicles Workshop around Ireland.
