I'm so excited! I have traced my maternal line to Callowfeenish, and after many years of research, I'm finally coming to Ireland to visit next month! I hope to walk the paths my great-grandparents walked (I'd really like to find where exactly they lived), gain a better understanding of what their lives were like, and maybe even meet up with some "cousins".
My great-grandfather was John Gannon (1871-1916), son of James Gannon (c.1839- ) and Bridget Mulkerrin (c. 1843- ). He had siblings Sally, Mary, Morgan, Joseph, Patrick, and Thomas. John, Mary, Morgan, and Joseph emigrated to the US; I have been unable to determine if Sally, Patrick, or Thomas left Ireland.
James was the son of Morgan Gannon (c.1810- ); he had a brother Patrick (c.1835- ). Bridget was the daughter of Thomas Mulkerrin (c.1810- ); she had a brother Michael (1845- ).
My great-grandmother was Bridget Nee (1869-1948), daughter of Martin Nee (c.1820-1910) and Mary Gorham (c.1840- ). She had siblings Barbara, Winifred, Martin, and Mary. According to family lore, the daughters emigrated to the US, but the son(s?) remained in Ireland "to work the farm".
Someone (probably from Bridget's family) may have been a missionary priest to China.
Again, I'm very excited - it's a dream come true! I welcome any information, advise, hints, or suggestions, and of course, would love to share information with anyone who's interested.

The 1901 census for Callowfinish shows a number of Nee (including Martin), Gannon (including Patrick) and Mulkerrin records. See link below. You will be out in the Connemara area so lots of beautiful scenery. Make sure you visit Clifden. Oughterard is another nice town. We have a parish liaison to the east of Moyrus parish and I will alert him to your message. Enjoy your trip!

We have Clifden on the itinerary already and will definitely add Oughterard, as well -- thanks for the tip. We want to squeeze in as much sightseeing as possible -- just want to soak it all in. =)

My ancestors are from rusheenamanaugh about a mile from Callowfeenish. I know of the Gannons.
Some of the Gannons are in Callowfeenish and some in a small place called Troscan.

Thanks for the insight into the Gannons and the area. I had never heard of Troscan -- are these the same family? I was able to meet one Gannon and one Mulkerrin relative while I was there -- it was the highlight of my trip, really. I had such an amazing time in gorgeous countryside with great people - definitely planning a trip back! :)

Lake Troscan seperates Callowfeenish and Troscan (part of Rusheeenamanagh ) Rusheeenamanagh is between Callowfeenish and Cana. The Gannons I know are the only ones in Callawfeenish and i do believe Gannons also live a few blocks upthe road from where we grew up.. I left there when I was 16 and now live in San Antonio Texas. My mother was very good friends with some of the Gannon girls .

Ah - looking at the map, I remember the lake now. I met Bridie Gannon, who basically lives just across the road from there. The old ordinance survey maps give me a better idea of how the different townlands relate to each other, too. It's pretty amazing to me to know that I still have family there, and I'm hoping to connect with as many as possible, in one way or another. I live in New Hampshire, not far from Portland, ME, which is affiliated with the Carna Emigrant Centre since a lot of folks from Connemara ended up in Portland.

Great to hear you found your relatives. The Carna Emigrant Centre was dedicated by Martin Walsh incumbent mayor of Bostom Massachusetts. Walsh's father is from Callowfeenish. We used to get well drinking water from their land.
I am planning on visiting Rusheenamanagh 2018. My son wants to spend his honeymoon in Europe. He has chosen a Swedish girl to marry.
I am fluent in Irish language.
