This year, 2022 marks the 175th anniversary of the Great Famine in Ireland.
The East Galway DNA Project has been set up by a group with ancestry in the area aiming to revive the names of those who left their native place during An Gorta Mór and the generations after.
The local group are looking for people in the area who can show local ancestry going back three generations. They are also looking for people who have already done a DNA test in the area.
