I have found a relative buried in Tuam Cemetery.  I am visiting Ireland from 6 Sept for a week and plan to visit Tuam.  I wondering how easy it is to find the grave and tombstone.  Her name is Winifred Hardiman and when she died she was Winifred Mooney.  She died in 1895 and was buried in August 1895 in Section B Plot 153 according to an entry on Findmygrave.  I've not found any burial entry when searching on Galway Council index of burial registers but I don't know whether the Tuam cemetery is one they manage.

Thanks for any help.

  • Hi Andrew,       this link below is of the Mooney grave in Tuam.
I looked for Winifred's death in 1895, says she died in Vicar Street, look at this headstone it mentions Vicar Street.

Thanks for this information.  That is useful extension of what I had discovered.  But do you know if there is a plan of the Tuam Cemetery anywhere?  I believe Winifred was buried in Section B plot 153.  I intend to visit the cemetery next week (travelling from near London) so would like to be prepared with whatever is available to enable name to easily find the grave.

  • I just copied and pasted this link. It's the map on the previous link that pinpoints the headstone.
You may see some people in the graveyard that will help.
What I do is, give the details on a paper and put it into a plastic wallet with your contact details and secure it to the headstone.
    People will reply.
