Steve,

I've been in direct contact with Ger Greaney as both my wife and I just returned from the Week of Welcomes in North Kerry. I'm thinking of becoming a Parish Administrator for one of the North Kerry parishes but living in the US, I'm not sure what all of that entails....can you enlighten me a bit.....before you ask, my O'Connor roots are more to the south and west on the Dingle peninsula....my North Kerry Roots are Barrett and Donoghue and related families...we had a great time in Listowel and I met nearly countless numbers of cousins mostly 3rd but some second and fourth...

Thanks for any possible advice....by the way I live in central Massachusetts...

  • Hi Ed--

I'm glad you enjoyed the Week of Welcomes! I need to make it to Ireland myself. I need a good week or so of solid research time.

I've been in touch with Ger Greany via email and he has passed on information, but so far nothing specific.

I'd encourage you to become a parish admin as so few Kerry Parishes are active on this site. I believe Duagh is the only parish of North Kerry area with a presence here.

You can see what I have done with the Duagh Parish site. I found some historic information and located useful links pertaining to the parish. I also set up a page for each townland which include appropriate pages from Griffiths valuation and links to Census records for each.

I set up pages for facilities and points of interest. I actually used the street view of Google Maps to find pictures of businesses and other facilities in the parish. When I was able to locate contact information through a google search, I added that.

Other than that, I try to help with queries pertaining to Duagh and other Kerry parishes using information I can get through my Ancestry account and through other online resources.

Ideally someone on the ground in Duagh would join me in administering the parish, but until then things are set up and I do the best I can.

I can certainly give you a hand with creating the parish site and finding resources if you like!

    Steve
