Looking to find any information on the Shaughnessy family of Barrettstown, first name James, he was a farmer.  Parish Oldconnell, married (1865) to Alicia (Allis) Shaughnessy (Power), her father's name William Power.  He (James) would have been my Great Great Grandfather.

They had three childern, two girls and one boy, one of the girls died as a baby.  The boy Patrick (1868) grew up to be my Great Grandfather, he worked as a railway porter/guard.

The name Shaughnessy, sometimes O Shaughnessy.

Currently doing the family history.

  • Hi Roger,

Also looking for Power, Alicia Power married James Shaughnessy in 1865.  Her fathers name was William Power, looking for her mothers name?

    Thank you in advance

  • Hi All,

Still looking for Alicia Power's Mothers name, i'm going to try a search on her edtimated birth year and see what that throws back at me.

Also looking for James Shaughnessys Mothers name, he married Alicia in 1865 so its easy getting the fathers name of both because they have to sign the register.

Any other possible siblings for both as well.

There is a John Bentley listed as a half brother by blood to a James Shaughnessy, apparently James was the benefactor of Johns will, see attached.

Roots Ireland has one possibly lead for a baptismal record for Alicia Power. However, this record was August 29 1826 for an Ally Power with father William and mother Charlotte Clin ton. The record was in the Naas RC church and it appears they lived in Naas. This Ally would have been 39 in 1865 so unlikely to be the correct record?? I also did not find any James Shaughnessy likely baptismal records in Kildare where the father was James.
