I am trying to fine information about Mary Scully Gantly  (Gantley) who as born in or around 1814. She married John Gantl(e)y. Their daughter was Eliza Gantley who was born in 1836.

May Scully Gantley died in 1896 and was buried in Mountmelilck. If possible, I would appreciate knowing where she is buried and if any other family members are buried nearby.

Thank you!!

  • There are 32 Scullys in St Joseph Cemetery in Mountmellick:

I did not see any Gantleys. It is possible she is buried in an older cemetery in Mountmellick such as the Ivy Chapel.

  • For reference - if I have the correct death for this Mary Gantley, she actually died at Shanderry townland a widow reported age 82.

This Shanderry townland is in Co. Offaly (King's County) and adjacent to the town of Portarlington - see placename database entry : Shanderry townland, .Clonyhurk Civil parish.

The town of Portarlington was split between Co. Offaly/King's County and Co. Laois/Queen's Co. and both the town and an area round was all in the civil registration district of Mountmellinck based in the adjacent county of Co. Laois/Queen's. There was registration office & dispensary for Mountmellick at Clonygowan not far from Portarlington.

There's a Gantley household still at Shanderry townland on the 1901 and 1911 census returns - likely relations of this Gantley/Scully line...
