Hello,

My name is John Blest and I have been researching The area around Drumkeeran for close to 40 years and have amassed considerable information about this area.  My mother's family named FLYNN was from Tawnahoney townland in Creevelea as the half-parish was known.  My Grandfather was John Flynn and he was born in Tawnahoney in 1877 to Hugh Ruadh Flynn and Jane Watters.  My Flynn relations in the area of tawnahoney, Gowlaun,Altivra and Geaglom include Sweeney,Doherty McGowan, McNiff, McCauley.

My father was born in Brockagh in 1891 and his father Myles Blest was born in Tonlegee.  My grandmother was Alice O'Hara who was born in Aughrim (Coolegrane) in Innismagrath Parish in 1864.

I have a group called Drumkeeranfolk on Yahoogroups with 350 members from around the world with roots in this area. There are some local Irish members of the group. You are welcome to join it if you are researching this area.

  • Hi John: I'm seeking information on John Doherty, b. May 1831, who married Catherine Flynn, b. Mar 1840.  John was the son of Edward Doherty and Catherine "Kate" was the daughter of Thomas Flynn and Emma Mahoney.  They married in 1858 and had ten children, most of whom went to New York, with John and Catherne arriving there in the mid 1890's. I know several of their children were born in Solloghedbeg and two in Donohill.  Does any of this fit into your research?  I don't think John was from Tipperary originally but I don't know precisely where he was from.

    Thank you for any information.

  • Hi John,

I wonder could you throw som light on these flynns of Leitrim.

    Were they originally O'Flynns?

Was there any connection to John O'Flynn - Bishop of Elphin who lived in Sligo?

I attach two Deeds from the registry of Deeds.

These are transcripts of legal Documents.
